that time i fulfilled a life-long dream

i'm probably the only person in the world who dreamed about the halloween costumes they would create for their one-day-future children. when we found out we were pregnant its one of the first things i thought about/looked forward to/put way too much pressure on getting perfect. For weeks i would ask ricky what he thought we should make emily for halloween. i took polls amongst our relatives, floated potential ideas to any one who would listen. finally, i arrived at THE PERFECT costume! Emily would be, for her very first halloween, a lima bean! to clarify, a can of lima beans, but still SHE WAS A LIMA BEAN! I googled it- she is from this moment on the FIRST can of lima beans on the internet and certainly the cutest. (if you haven't make the connection- our last name is lima. pronounced "LEEMA" as my former students used to spell it. like the capital of peru.)
i should say that halloween itself is not a holiday that i'm IN LOVE with. really, i love it just for the fact that you can dress up and have candy. i hate horror movies and anything dark so i just ignore all the goo and gore for the fact that I LOVE CANDY AND COSTUMES!
If, upon googling "best cutest unique amazing baby costume", arrived here and would also like to make your child a can of lima beans (or any veggie really), here are my materials:
- fabric. i bought the silvery fabric for can and green stuff for the beans and hat. the rest came from scraps.
- stuffing for the beans of course. you could really gut some old stuffed animals but thats sad so you can find this stuff at a fabric craft store. i got my at JoAnnes.
- boning. you know, the stuff that holds your strapless dress up or you maybe what you find in a bar. i got this at my local PA fabric outlet but they would have it at JoAnnes too. I used this to create the frame of the can. I realized afterwards that i just needed two loops at the top and bottom.
- stiff felt. this i had laying around an was perfect for the lid. i covered it in fabric and although it was kind of floppy still worked. I used boning to get it to tilt up a little and connect it to the main costume.
- mini shopping cart and fake veggies- if these weren't borrowed from family i don't know if this costume would have been as ultimately amazing as it was. they were the icing on the cake!

a change of direction

When i first created this website it was supposed to be some sort of professional vehicle towards success. For example, it was geared towards art education with the idea that SURELY any potential employer would HAVE to hire me after they saw such a thing. Perhaps this did land me my first job- i will never know... But since i'm no longer in the job hunting business (having been employed indefinitely by my husband to raise all babies in our house) things have GOT TO change.

Here enters the strange picture of me in glasses that hark back to my toddler years. I've decided that i've got some things to share. Mostly stuff i'll be creating as life happens but maybe ill get a little more personal too. I've said to Ricky several times that i think we are a very social media couple. I mean my daughter has her own Instagram hashtag (are they called hashtags on Instagram? ...maybe that question disproves my prior statement).

Anyway , here's to more regular, personal, hopefully interesting posts in the future... and to not caring whatever comes of it - professional and the like.

p.s. should i buy these glasses? and holla at you #elimz!

doesn't our darling look so happy in this professional picture we had taken? she is a natural!
this past christmas my motto was "if it CAN be made it SHALL be made" or something like that. i decided that, like last year, i was going to be making most of our presents because 1. i can and 2. less money and 3. i have this need to make things.

So here was my list:
1. stuffed animals(humans?) for the little ones
2. a fireplace cushion protector thing because we could NOT stand one more comforter being thrown around for the sake of baby-proofing
3. frames upon frames of pictures of our baby girl for the g-parents.
4. race swag for my SIL (woot-woot disney princess half-marathon!)

This basically meant i spent half of november and every single day of december in my "studio"" leading up to christmas. It was worth though (maybe not monetarily) because it was from THE HEART. The following is my round up of christmas twenty-thirteen and better late than never right??!?!?!?!

Also, i threw in some fun pics from christmas too JUST because.

actually i was told by my niece that she doesn't EXACTLY look like her but "its ok"

is that present super huge or that baby tiny? we.will.never.know.

my amazingly inspiring sister-in-law deserved her very own disney princess half marathon sweatshirt
i used this super cool technique for the sweatshirt. its like wanna-be screen printing. you can find instructions here.

Christmas this year was the best. It was Emily's very first so, naturally, she was spoiled. I'll leave you with this video to remind you of the christmas season.
