...CRAFTING, of course! This Christmas i felt like a busy little elf down in my new workspace in the basement. I was SO happy that we fixed up this area because my husband would have gone CRAZY with the mess of my projects if i had to do them in HIS territory (teehee). Anyway, here are some pics of what i was up to for basically the whole month of December. Recently a friend of my sister (and now a friend of mine) commissioned me to paint a mural for her baby's room. They are keeping the gender of their baby a surprise and wanted to keep it neutral. They are also huge fans of their alma-matter Auburn University which happens to have a grand tradition of rolling their famous oak trees with toilet paper after a big win. Sadly, this tradition now has an expiration date since an angry enemy fan poisoned the oaks and now they are dying. Because of this, my friends baby will never be able to participate in this time-honored act of celebration and this leads us to..... a mural of the famous Toomer's Oaks victoriously hung with paper.
Sorry the image quality isn't that great. I took this picture with my phone when i was done. Hopefully they will send me some pictures when the room is all finished. (They are carpeting the floor and doing some other work too. Its a good thing because they need to cover that huge paint spot I made because I "didn't have to be careful" hehe)
My sister gave me a white, moldy-looking, beat-up, ugly, old rocking chair she had gotten from.... i guess the trash? She was thinking Abbe could have it if I was willing to spruce it up a little as a birthday present. I WISH i had taken a before picture of this chair. It was GROSS. The paint was chipping and had some weird gunk on it and the cushions were stained with some terrible floral pattern.
Anyway, heres the final product. I washed it off, pulled the cushions off, spray painted with some left overs from a different project, and found this SUPER cute fabric! Update: Abbe loves it! Although its currently only taken out under strict supervision since she believes its better use if for standing. So in our new house i decided to do this wall texture technique (Martha Stewart). You use these combs and add glaze to your paint and then after millions of yards of painter's tape and a lot of patiences to get the lines straight - you get the wall you see here! It turned out GREAT but it needed some art....pictures....anything. So in church after a friend told me about a family that painted the fruits of the spirit on their steps i was inspired! I wanted these precious gifts hung somewhere in our house too! Ergo- the Fruit of the spirit wall. So i took some old frames and bought some shaped wooden blocks and spray painted them white. Then after carefully choosing 6 different spray paint colors (i could have got away with less) I designed and stenciled and xacto-knifed these meticulous letters you see here. In hind-sight i realize i could have designed these in illustrator, printed, and framed them in half the time and money...shwoops. I had fun anyway :)
